Objectives

Improving access and practices related to water, sanitation and hygiene in Wayuu schools in the community of Merrattashi in the municipality of Manaure, La Guajira.

Activities

  • Participatory diagnosis of the current water system and design of the new solution.

  • Implementation of a campaign for the prevention of COVID-19.

  • Training and delivery of basic supplies for the construction of traditional hand washing stations (Tippy Taps) in homes.

  • Improvement of community water systems.

  • Organization of a community association for the management of the system and definition of the financial scheme for its sustainability.

Results

  • The "¡Ponte Pilas!" campaign was implemented, focusing on the promotion of personal hygiene habits, the prevention of COVID-19, and the development of sanitary infrastructure in the community school.

  • A windmill water extraction system was rehabilitated.

  • 1 elevated tank, 2 dry toilets, 2 urinals, 1 multiple hand washing area, 1 kitchen, 1 dining room, 1 lavatory facility for the community early childhood development center were built.

2. Creation of spaces that promote protection, health and community development in the rural municipalities of Tumaco

Objectives

Promote access to safe recreational spaces and basic sanitation facilities in rural areas of Tumaco.

Activities

  • Construction of a playground and exercise area with the community.

  • Training of community members responsible for the maintenance of the infrastructure.

  • Design of a childhood safeguarding strategy using activities in the playground.

  • Selection and training of community promoters.

  • Development of sports and recreational activities and initiatives with children and young people that promote the development of individual and collective capacities.

  • Construction of the water and basic sanitation system.

  • Selection and training of water, sewage and hygiene promoters.

  • Development of workshops and activities with teachers, parents and leaders for the promotion of hygiene practices.

Results

  • A playground and training facility was built for children and youth.

  • Through the construction of a sanitation system, 122 people in the community have access to adequate sanitary conditions.

5. Strengthening hospital care for children affected by COVID-19 in Colombia

Provide quality care during the pandemic for children with COVID and with other highly complex diseases.

Activities

  • Emergency room separation for respiratory patients and high complexity patients.

    1. Adaptation of second floor services for respiratory patient management.

    2. Purchase of medical equipment and supplies.

    3. Training of the medical teams for equipment handling.

Results

  • The number of hospital beds has been expanded, including 73 beds exclusively for COVID patients, equipped for the management of the disease in children.

Objectives

Providing humanitarian aid to 50 low-income families in Punta Arena, Tierra Bomba.

Results

Two food kits were delivered to 95 families, with the support of the Punta Arena Community Council, the Punta Arena Environmental Guard and the recyclers.

Cleaning of 6 critical points in Punta Arena and extraction of an approximate total of:

  • 26 tons of ordinary waste.

  • 9 tons of glass.

  • 2 tons of plastic.

  • 0.7 tons of pruning for composting.
